Display Facebook Photos on Your Website with Galleria

UPDATE: June 25, 2015

A new version of the plugin is available on our GitHub page.

UPDATE: May 3, 2013

Finally! I pushed the plugin to our GitHub account so it has a permanent, source-controlled home.  The latest and greatest Galleria Facebook Plugin can always be found here:

Galleria Facebook Plugin on GitHub

In this release:

  • Published initial version to GitHub
  • Fixed &limit= to &photos.limit= in querystring arguments (thanks @RoelDekker)

(Note: I’m going to soon remove the old versions that were uploaded as a zip to this post to prevent people from downloading the older, out of date versions.)

UPDATE: April 29, 2013

UPDATE: December 12, 2012

UPDATE: August 29, 2012

  • Now supports Galleria 1.2.8
  • Fixed bug that caused missing thumbnails on Galleria versions 1.2.7+
  • Restructured portions of the plugin to be based on latest Flickr plugin in Galleria 1.2.8
  • Updated post below to include 1.2.8 documented way of loading themes (slightly different than the documented approach in 1.2.6)
  • Latest plugin: galleria.facebook.zip

Facebook provides an easy way for individuals to display photos from their profile using Facebook’s Photo Badge.  You download a small snippet of HTML, embed it in your website or blog, and et voilà.

However, there are a few drawbacks to the tool, most notably:

  • The Facebook Photo Badge does not allow much customization. If you’d like control over how your photos are displayed on your website, you will need another solution.
  • Photo Badges are currently limited to photos from an individual’s profile and do not support company Pages. If you want to display Facebook Page albums and photos on your site, read on.

Galleria

Galleria is a popular, open source photo gallery whose “aim is to simplify the process of creating professional image galleries for the web and mobile devices.”  Best of all, it’s free and comes with an attractive theme for displaying your photo albums.  You can purchase additional themes, though I’ve found the basic, free theme to be attractive and sufficient for most purposes.

Out of the box, Galleria does not currently support loading Facebook albums, but does have excellent support for Flickr and Picassa.  I adapted their Flickr plugin to work with Facebook.  You can see an example of the Galleria Facebook Plugin in action on The Gaga Center site.

Galleria Facebook Plugin How-To

Instructions on how to display a Facebook photo album on your website using Galleria.

1. You will first need to find the identifier for the Facebook album that you want to display. I haven’t yet found an easy way to do this other than looking in the URL when you’re viewing the album at Facebook. Navigate to the album in question, and copy down the album id that I’ve highlighted in red below (for your own album, of course):

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.291489504249941.68160.249094895156069&type=3

2. Download and install Galleria:

http://galleria.io/download/

3. Download and install my Galleria Facebook Plugin:

Get a copy of the plugin: Galleria Facebook Plugin

The Galleria library has a directory called plugins/.  Unzip galleria.facebook.zip and place the facebook/ folder directly in the plugins/ directory so the file layout looks like this:

galleria/
  galleria/plugins
    galleria/plugins/facebook

4. Load jQuery, Galleria, the basic theme, and the Galleria Facebook Plugin in your HTML page (this assumes you’ve put the basic Galleria files in a js/ directory):

<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.js"></script>
<script src="js/galleria/galleria-1.2.8.min.js"></script>
<script src="js/galleria/plugins/facebook/galleria.facebook.js"></script>

5. Add the following snippet of HTML to your page, setting your album_id (gathered in step 1), height, and width:

<script>
Galleria.loadTheme('js/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js');
Galleria.run('#galleria', {
 facebook: 'album:291489504249941',
 width: 745,
 height: 550,
 lightbox: true});
</script>
<div id="galleria"></div>

6. You can explore more Galleria display options and fun tweaks in the Galleria Documentation.

An Example!

See the Facebook Galleria Plugin in action on The Gaga Center website.

Finally, do consider purchasing additional themes as the developer generously donates this photo gallery to the world and I’m sure would appreciate it! (we have no connection to them) The gallery has great support for mobile and tablet, including native swipe gestures.

  • Tom

    Apparently it only works with Facebook Pages, not normal usernames :(

  • Seph

    Any ideas why this doesn’t work in Internet Explorer or Opera? I can’t even get the example to work in IE.

  • Adam

    Seph,

    Appended callback to request URL to allow cross-domain communications resolved the issue. It now works in IE’s and Opera.

    We updated the zip file, please try and download the plugin again.

  • Tom

    Any news how to make it work with facebook profiles?

    Thanks!

  • mike

    Having issues getting the plugin to take the full album. I upped the options.max to 1000 but it defaults to taking only 25 photos though there are more in the album.

    Any suggestions on how to increase the max?

    Please email me and let me know.

  • Adam

    Mike,

    Issue has been resolved.

    Please download the latest JS from above and you are now able to set the max amount of photos to be pulled in from an album.

    example:

    $('#galleria').galleria({
      facebook: 'album',
      width: 800,
      height: 600,
      lightbox: true,
      facebookOptions: {
        max: 100
      }
    });

  • Puk

    I have been searching for an option like this for ages, it works perfect, thanks!

  • Vinny

    This is absolutely brilliant.

    I’d really like to have the picture titles displayed without having to click the ‘i’ though. Is this possible?

  • Ortal

    This is great! an awesome way to keep our website in sync with the facebook page. Any thoughts on, say, pulling the last five albums? Im the dev on the site , but Im trying to keep it as hands off as possible.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Vinny – thanks. you can have the picture title display automatically by adding these arguments to your galleria call (Galleria.run if you’ve migrated to a 1.2.7):

    showInfo: true,
    _toggleInfo: false

    for example:

    $(‘#galleria’).galleria({
    facebook: ‘album’,
    width: 800,
    height: 600,
    lightbox: true,
    showInfo: true,
    _toggleInfo: false
    }
    });

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Ortal – you could try this a few different ways. Hit the Facebook graph for your user and get a list of the latest albums, and then load a number of galleria’s on the page setting facebook: album_id accordingly.

    Another option could be extending the Facebook plugin to accept multiple album_ids, grab the individual photos, and merge into a single galleria instance.

    As time permits, I may try to add the latter option to the plugin.

  • Beatrys

    Hi! It’s a newbie’s question, so please excuse me, but’s it’s there any more steps to do this? Putting exactly the code you showed everything is white!
    Actually, nothing shows at all, not even the “Data not found” or anything. Don’t we need to put a script to load the galleria theme or something? Thanks!

  • Adam

    Beatrys,

    Galleria does requires a theme to function. I recommend you go through the Beginners Guide on the Galleria web site: http://galleria.io/docs/getting_started/beginners_guide/

    Once you get Galleria up and running, follow the instructions above to implement the Galleria Facebook plugin.

  • scott

    is there a way to have the thumbail block appear below the slideshow. for me, right now, the thumbs are on top of the photo, aligned to thebottom, but still cover or semi covering the image depending on the main image’s height.

  • byron

    Hi please is it posibble to display more than one albun ???????

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Scott – which theme are you using? which verison of Galleria? the theme determines the placement of the thumbnails, not the Facebook plugin.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Byron – see my reply ealier to Ortal. This currently isn’t support in the Facebook plugin. May get around to adding it one day, but it’s pretty straightforward if you wanted to hit the (post-IPO) Facebook graph yourself.

  • Unfortunately it didn’t work. I must admit as a novice at this I found it very hard. It seems to be written for experienced web designers. I followed all the steps (took a few intuitive leaps when it said load certain things – load where??). Not sure where to go next..

  • Alex

    Hi, im using galleria 1.2.7 as i cant find 1.2.6 and i have it working, however the thumbnails arent showing properly.

    the error shows:
    running with galleria-1.2.7.js

    SCRIPT5007: Unable to get value of the property ‘split’: object is null or undefined
    galleria-1.2.7.js, line 2836 character 29

    at
    special = data.thumb.split(‘:’);

    or galleria-1.2.7.min.js i get the following:

    SCRIPT5007: Unable to get value of the property ‘split’: object is null or undefined
    galleria-1.2.7.min.js, line 8 character 32602

    at

    h=g.thumb.split(“:”)

    Thanks for you help.

  • Alex

    Alex – Resolved – – I have fixed the error, line 2836
    removed ‘ .split(‘:’) ‘

    Thumbnails working. Not technacally inclinded, so i dont really know what the differcence is, other than thumbs are no longer split by the ‘:’

    THanks Alex

  • Bigal

    Is there a way to load more than one album within the same galleria div ?

  • Steve

    I am getting the Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album error. How do I fix this?

  • Taylor

    I’m getting the ‘Unable to retrieve facebook photo’s message as well. Is plugin still working for everyone else?

  • Taylor

    nevermind, it’s still working. just not with my personal albums, or a company page album. But I used the example link album and its working… not sure why…

  • I can’t get this to work with my albums, but have successfully done it with other sites. Is there a setting or plug in that I have to change on my facebook? The example you gave for gaga center is fb code 303027476429477 I can see it fine, but when I add my own code 207271292636908 I get error
    Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album 207271292636908

    Please Advise, I love this Plug In, would really like to see it work. Thanks.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Hi Andrea – is the album you’re trying to load public, or own by a company page? You won’t be able to use this plugin to load private albums.

  • Paul

    Great little plug-in, but I am having the same problem mentioned above, namely the “unable to retrieve facebook photos” message.

    Seems to be that when I put an album with a URL like ?set=a.XXXXX it can work, and when it looks like ?set=oa.XXXXX it won’t.

    This is a pity, because I am trying to load photos from a public group, rather than a personal site.

    Is there ANY way around this, please, anyone?

    In any case, thanks for the hard work!

  • gyros

    Hi Alex

    Thanks for your tutorial! It works! But one little thing makes problems:

    http://www.fairlight.ch/philipp/img/Problem.jpg

    These little navigation arrows (left & right) at the bottom for the humbnails are missing. Any idea how I could fix it?

    galleria 1.2.7

    Cheers!

  • gyros

    Sorry didn’t mention the error type:

    “Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method ‘splitt” of undefined”

    and at the console:

    (86) (because there are 86 pics)
    Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method ‘split’ of undefined galleria-1.2.7.min.js:8
    Galleria._createThumbnails.b.scale.complete galleria-1.2.7.min.js:8
    Galleria.Picture.scale.E.wait.success galleria-1.2.7.min.js:9
    E.wait.g

    cheers

  • I was having some trouble too Steve and Taylor. However I looked on Gaga’s site and was able to figure this out: You have to type in ‘album:xxxxxx’

    $(‘#galleria’).galleria({
    facebook: ‘album:xxxxxxxxxxxxx’, //RIGHT HERE YOU HAVE TO TYPE IN “ALBUM”
    width: 800,
    height: 400,
    lightbox: true
    });

    And the directions above call to a file that has 1.2.6 when the updated versions are 1.2.7

    RIGHT HERE CHANGE IT TO 1.2.7

    I’m still having problems though.
    The pictures FINALLY load from my facebook, but they just stack all the way down my page and the gallery isn’t loading. The help page for testing to see if your gallery is working, says my gallery works.

    Here is what my code looks like.
    (to get to the css error)

    $(‘#galleria’).galleria({
    facebook: ‘album:xxxxxxxxxxxx’,
    width: 800,
    height: 400,
    lightbox: true
    });

    Any help would be appreciated .

  • Jesse

    I followed the beginners guide as i am not skilled yet with this and it worked with each ‘test’ in the instructions, right up to the end and then I get ‘Load Failed: No Data Found’

    Any idea on what I could have possibly done wrong?

  • Jesse

    Nevermind, some of the instruction code was left in there and it was screwing up the rest of the coding, working now! LOVE IT!

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Claudia – if you look in your browser’s javascript console, do you see any errors after Galleria loads? are you perhaps not including a galleria theme?

  • Hi Adam,

    I’m wondering how can I remove all the thumbnail and also how to change the default black color background to other color? Thanks in advance! :)

  • This is a great gallery/facbook option but as you can see by my example when using the facebook plugin with galleria it doesn’t load the carousel thumb container correctly so the thumbs stack and no arrows appear. Hoping there is an obivous quick fix?

  • I temporarily hid the carousel thumbs on my example until/if a fix can be found. I am assuming the issue is that it can’t count the # of images on facebook to figure out if it should load it?

  • this isn’t working – i have done everything as listed but no pictures show up.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    UPDATED: August 29, 2012:
    * Now supports Galleria 1.2.8
    * Fixed bug that caused missing thumbnails on Galleria versions 1.2.7+
    * Restructured portions of the plugin to be based on latest Flickr plugin in Galleria 1.2.8
    * Updated post to include 1.2.8 documented way of loading themes (slightly different than the documented approach in 1.2.6)

  • Is there a way to embed 2 photo albums on the same page? btw – this thing works fantastic! Great little app.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Hi John – yes, you can embed 2 photo albums on the same page that each point to a different Facebook album. Create 2 galleria divs and then load them with the Galleria.run command:

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘js/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria1’, { facebook: ‘album:308347502564141’, width: 745, height: 550, lightbox: true});
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria2’, { facebook: ‘album:291489504249941’, width: 745, height: 550, lightbox: true});

  • Rob

    Hi

    This is a great little app! but i cant seem to get my public photo album but works with a company page album. The photos dont load it just says Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album 10151355740800561

    What am i doing wrong??

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Rob – it looks like the graph API is not recognizing your album id. You can test your album id by using the Facebook graph explorer tool:

    http://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/?method=GET&path=10151355740800561

    or manually:
    http://graph.facebook.com/10151355740800561

    In both cases you’ll see that Facebook is not recognizing your album id. Here’s an example of what a valid request looks like:

    http://graph.facebook.com/308347502564141

  • Chris

    Any way to get the facebook page to appear within a galleria iframe setup?

  • Alex

    @Chris – I imagine you would load the facebook gallery the same way, but instead of targeting the galleria , follow the galleria instructions to load the gallery in an iframe. why don’t you try it out and let us know how it goes.

  • Great app this!

    Do you know if its possible to feed a photostream from Facebook into this galleria? I can use an album ID no probs, but would really find a photostream of latest uploads great to display on this site.

    PS

    Anyone having issues with a blank page instead of their album being displayed, I had to put the full path of where galleria and the plugins were held.

    Im using Joomla btw

  • Mike

    This is great, easy to setup even for an amateur. One question thugh.

    Is there a way to render the image order NEWEST to OLDEST, instead of how it is by default (oldest to newest)?

  • Will

    I had it working perfectly with a facebook business page for about 3 weeks. however, yesterday it stopped working. Any ideas? Did Facebook change something?

  • Alex

    Will – share a link to both the business page and your install and maybe some folks can help you to diagnose. The plugin seems to still be working.

  • Roland

    It stopped working for me as well, been using it for like 2-3 days without a problem, now it just doesn’t work. I didn’t even touch the code, what could be wrong? All I see is the loader icon: http://chimneycakehouse.co.uk/

  • Jonathan

    Mine’s stopped as well, I guess Facebook have changed something that’s killed it, hope someone can suggest a fix.

  • Heilene

    Happy happy happy, what an awesome app. Thanks

    Just can’t get to work on IE. do you have the link to the latest plugin version.

  • heilene

    Plugin is working in Dreamweaver CS6 live view but not on Firefox or IE

  • Nicole

    So I went through the whole beginners’ guide and it was working with pictures I had downloaded but when I tried to use the code you provided, I got nothing showing up. I tested them and all my paths are right. Any suggestions/What should I do?

    Thanks!

  • Arthur

    I am using 1.2.8. Thumbs are stacking and no arrows appear. Noticed this was an issue in 1.2.7 as noted by chad. Am I doing somethig wrong or is there still a bug?

  • Can’t get this to work but reading the more recent comments, it IS just a recent thing. I just get the spinning washing machine logo. That’s all I got on the example site above too so.. what’s gone wrong?

    Is it Zuckerberg’s tinkering elves again?

  • Arthur

    Disregard my last comment. It was my fault. I was playing with an option that disabled the carousel and this was causing the stacking and no arrows. Sorry.

  • Something in facebook api has changed.. so the plugin stop working for me.

    But i found out the problem: just open galleria.facebook.js and change the url at line 87 with “http://graph.facebook.com/”

    ;-)

  • You genius Jacopo – works like a charm. Cheers fella.

  • SatheeshBabu

    Thanks, It’s very simple and working fine on facebook pages

  • heilene

    big shout out to Jacopo, and a cyber hug :) thanks dude

  • Roland

    Jacopo, you’re the man, thanks ;)

  • It was working fine last week. Now it doesn’t work at all, Now all I see is the loading logo. SIgh, I tried the fix, updated to 1.2.8. Nothing works. I thought I messed up the codes but it turned out I wasn’t the only one cause the plugin at http://www.gagacenter.com/about/gaga-photos/tour is also not working..

    So.. Help? lol :-)

  • Rob

    Mine stopped working today aswell. It seems Facebook have changed something.

  • @Rob So I’m not the only one. I’m refreshing this page every 3 hours to see if anyone have any solutions . I’m that desperate because this is just one of the best plugins out there.

  • https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/238039849657148 <- Probably this might be the problem? Galleria developers? Any comments?

  • by putting http://graph.facebook.com/554114184616870/photos it gives a JSON response. but it doesn’t work if integrated to another script. What is going on?

  • Rob

    Seems to work for me if you change line 87 of galleria.facebook.js to read:

    var url = ‘http://graph.facebook.com/’ + params[‘album_id’] + ‘/photos’;

    (i.e. remove the callback and the limit modifiers).

    The joy of facebook API changes with no notice .

  • Oh Rob that works!!! CYBER HUG! I was already coding my own gallery app. Hahahaha this is a time saviour! Thanks!!

  • Rob, it works, but it shows only 25 photos :/

  • Yes – nice one Rob – it’s partially working. But like Luke says, there are only 25 showing.

    I’ve had a look at the code but I’m not really clever enough so can’t find where this max variable is.

    Any other js heroes out there?

  • Mike

    I changed that line, and see success with Chrome and Firefox, but not luck with the beast that is Internet Exploder.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Hello All — sorry for the slow replies on this issue. I’ll be posting an updated zip with the facebook plugin shortly (and launching a github repo for easier updates). In the meantime, the other comments have it right. Change line 87 of galleria.facebook.js to read:

    var url = ‘http://graph.facebook.com/’ + params[‘album_id’] + ‘/photos’ + ‘?callback=?’ + ‘&limit=’ + this.options.max;

    Can a few folks apply this change and test in various browsers? Particularly interested in some IE results as those have seemed a bit erratic lately.

  • Mike

    This works for me, latest Chrome, latest Firefox, IE8. Windows 7. Thanks Alex

  • Brilliant – thanks for that Alex.
    Works in IE10 and Chrome 23 here on Win 8.

    Need to change the max value at the head of the code to suit too.

  • wonderful submit, very informative. I ponder why the opposite experts of
    this sector do not realize this. You must continue your writing.
    I am confident, you have a huge readers’ base already!

  • Awesome Plugin Alex!

    It doesn’t work with albums on “Public Profiles” & only works with “Like Pages?

    Album From my personal profile: http://graph.facebook.com/787810903870

    Why does Facebook Not recognize Album ID’s from Profiles, only “Like Pages”?

  • & the Max is 40 pictures?

  • KCW

    How do you can a listing of Photo Albums on FB?

  • Hoss

    is there a way to set the width as a percent instead of 745?

  • Hoss

    nevermind, i’m an idiot. i figured it out. thanks!

  • Hi there,

    I used the facebook graph api on a website that I have developed, and I was able to get the album info dynamically.

    The script I created uses the Facebook Graph API to retrieve all the albums from the Facebook page, and then after a user selects an album, I used the galleria plugin to display the images.

    Visit http://enfieldsdachurch.com/show_albums for an example :)

  • Taylor

    Hey Kevin! Would you mind explaining how you achieved this? Exactly what I am looking for.

  • enki

    Thanks for this nice script! Sadly it doesnt pick up automatically the albums of a page !
    This script does that : https://github.com/tilldreier/jquery-fbalbum !
    But it doesnt work properly since a few weeks (maybe because modifications on facebook).

    It should be a good thing to mix those 2 scripts !

  • joz

    i had a country block in the permissions settings turned on….this prevented the gallery from working at all. took a fair bit of troubleshooting to work that out.

    great plug thou ;)

  • joz

    would it be possible to make this responsive. i think you could place the container measurements 745 x 550 in the galleria.classic.css and (the bit im not ok with) reference them in the script as a percentage.

    any advances on this?

  • @Taylor: Apologies for late reply.

    I wrote a small article on my blog with some more information that may help you: http://bit.ly/WbMUyv

  • Casper

    Will there be an update following the recent changes that apparently made it stop working again?

    I’m no way near technical enough to figure out what happened, all i can see is that it doesn’t load any pictures anymore.

    Any ideas?

  • Kevin,

    Thanks, man. Awesome work here. I was able to install Galleria and your FB plugin and I was up and running! I was a bit surprised that it just worked right off the bat. Again, thanks. Very nice.

  • Hello, first thanks for this tutorial,
    but how can i show my video albums?
    Bye!

  • Ali

    thanks man , very good job
    but i want to ask how to make pictures autoplay
    bye

  • I get the message, ‘Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album 544445392241292’.
    I did get the simple example using local image files to work.
    I switched the album to ‘public,’ but no luck. Here’s the code, any ideas?

    #galleria{ width: 745px; height: 550px; background: #000 }

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘../js/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    facebook: ‘album:544445392241292’,
    width: 745,
    height: 550,
    lightbox: true});

  • try again:

    #galleria{ width: 745px; height: 550px; background: #000 }

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘../js/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    facebook: ‘album:544445392241292’,
    width: 745,
    height: 550,
    lightbox: true});

  • Hi, There’s no doubt that your website may be having web browser compatibility issues. Whenever I look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine however when opening in I.E., it’s got some overlapping issues. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Aside from that, excellent site!

  • it seems to work perteft on ie 8, 9, crhomre and firefox, great job, but i ‘m trying unsuccessfully to add, socila sahrin buttons, like and teet, anyone has made it? thanks

  • Shiju

    My requirement is no need to display the thump image section , its directly goes to the light box

  • Thanks a lot! Worked for me!

    Indeed keep an eye on the right link. Second script link in head (1.2.8) should be updated to 1.2.9 if you’re using that one.

  • Joshua Currier

    Any way to get this to work on a regular user’s profile page instead of only on business pages?

  • S3cube

    Alex thank you so much!

  • great job

  • Alex Schmelkin

    @Joshua_Currier – it’s not currently possible to use a regular user’s profile page as those photos aren’t available publicly via the API.

    @S3cube, @Webxterlk – thanks for the feedback!

    Would you also be able to integrate a Like Count, Like Button with each photo pulled in from Facebook?

  • Greg

    It works perfectly yesterday, today it is not working :( Please update the code guys. Thanks in advance.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Hello Everyone – yes indeed the plugin is now broken because of a change in the Facebook Graph API. Sit tight…I’m investigating a fix and will try to post back shortly.

  • Megan

    Will this work for Facebook Groups?

  • Charlie

    APRIL 2013 UPDATE!!!!!

    The galleria is currently on VERISON 1.2.9 — and the article’s code links to 1.2.8 —-

    So be sure to change to code to version 1.2.9 or else you’ll get nothing staring back at you!!

  • Alex Schmelkin

    UPDATE:

    I tracked down the problem with some galleries suddenly breaking. Over the past week Facebook quietly rolled out a change to permissions (specifically it seems with the way they are setting cookies) that requires using a more explicit version of the graph API.

    The issue is discussed here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16063370/facebook-graph-api-call-no-longer-works-because-of-facebook-cookies

    Just now finishing testing on an updated plugin and hope to push out a new Galleria Facebook plugin in the next day or so.

  • Was just curious if you had a chance to update the plugin? I have been working on this all day and initially had it all working just fine on one page on my site, then went to do it with another album on a separate page and now both are broken. I’ve tried other options and haven’t found anything that works so far. At least with this I did have some success!!!

    I’m still baffled as to why your example (the gaga gallery) is still working. I even tried using the older version they are and still no success.

  • A novice at this. When this plugin works, it really rocks. Thank you so much. Unfortunately, there have been some problems — I really appreciate that you are working on this.

  • TJ

    The plugin seems to have started working again! This is weird, I was waiting to see if there was an update but seems to be fixed. Maybe Facebook realised issues changing their api!

    Great plugin, thanks!

  • Hoping this update comes soon. Got 2 websites requiring it to work! :) Thanks!

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Just in time for me to release a fix…Facebook undid whatever security/cookie change broke the plugin! I don’t want to say we’re out of the woods, but the existing plugin appears to work as before.

    @Talbot – I had cooked up a solution and wanted to test it in the real world on gagacenter.com site. It turns out that the long form url of requesting the photos in an album continued to work; perhaps this is Facebook’s way of telling developers to switch to the explicit syntax.

    Old syntax for retrieving photos (which was broken until yesterday):
    http://graph.facebook.com/308347502564141/photos

    New syntax that worked which I deployed to gaga site as a test:
    http://graph.facebook.com/308347502564141?fields=photos.fields(images,source,picture,link,name)

    @TJ – thanks for the heads up that this is working again.

    @Jacob – can you try your sites again and confirm if it’s working or not for us?

    What does everyone think? Should I publish a new plugin that uses the longer form syntax, or leave well enough alone as things appears to be working again?

    Leave your thoughts in the comments.

  • It seems that neither method loads the images from the gallery i’m trying to pull the images from.. this is odd.

    You can ignore the INSOMNIA site as I just discovered they took down their Facebook group with the albums in recently.

    Does the album have to be an album in group? I could only get it to work if it was an album from a group before.

  • Jacob

    lol.. okay thumbnails are showing. Apologies for spamming this up a bit P:

    Thanks!

  • Laurel

    It works on one computer on Chrome and Firefox but not IE

    On another computer it does not work on Chrome and IE

    (I have cleared the cache on the browsers)

    Is it working for everyone else?

  • Laurel

    I figured out why it was working for some..once I deleted the cookies it is not working on either..

  • Charlie

    …..And….. It’s broken again…

    Currently 9:40pm GMT or 4:50 EST Saturday, April 27.

  • Err, so at a loss. now, it only shows up a black screen. any clues?

    I changed the galleria.facebook.js to read:

    var url = ‘http://graph.facebook.com/’ + params[‘album_id’] + ‘?fields=photos.fields(images,source,picture,link,name)’;

    but nothing — just a black box.
    —————————–
    if i type in the following in url bar :
    http://graph.facebook.com/233012056746804?fields=photos.fields(images,source,picture,link,name)

    i get correct data
    ——————————

    here is the html markup:

    Galleria Test

    #galleria{ width: 700px; height: 400px; background: #000 }

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘http://www.yehatzvi.org/galleria_test/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    facebook:233012056746804,
    width: 600,
    height: 400,
    lightbox: true});

    any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Just posted the latest plugin which should work around the issues that we’ve all been having with Facebook’s new security scheme for public photos.

    http://cdn.at.ai/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/galleria.facebook1.zip

    (Coming soon…time to move this to GitHub already!)

    Alex: You’re the king..
    Thanks. Works perfectly now.

    Chrome, IE, Firefox. Windows 7. Check x4.

  • Thank you Alex !!!!!

    Thanks Alex!

    Thx for the Facebook plugin update.

    There is a small error on line 90 of “galleria.facebook.js” (creating the url): It’s not “max=”, but “photos.max=”

    Works flawless.

  • Hi Alex! I was using the update before this and it worked all fine, but I found chrome was a bit wonky so i used your latest plugin which is the

    Works fine but…. the max photos are still back to 25 :/ I couldn’t get it to get further than that! tried the facebookOptions { max:200} still doesnt work.

    Help.

  • How do you get more that 25 pictures to show? Changing the “max : 40” in the facebook plugin does nothing?

  • @Jaime, nope! does nothing for me :( i changed it on the galleria call under facebookOptions AND the facebook plugin. AAAAaaaaaaaaaaa bayaaaaaaaaaa ( africa )

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Happy Friday.

    Big news (for us Galleria Facebook Plugin fans at least) — pushed the plugin to our GitHub repository today. The new home for the plugin source code will be here:

    https://github.com/aiaio/galleria-facebook

  • @Alex hey man! WOhoooo it’s on github! Anyhow, I used the plugin script on the repository and it worked like a charm! Thanks! :-)

  • Hi, we’re still limited to 25 images again though, regardless of where the file is hosted.
    Is this a plugin issue or Facebook (just for a change?)

  • Scratch that – it’s ok now..!!

  • I’m using the script posted by Kevin and have easily displayed a list of facebook albums that can be clicked to show the pictures in that album.
    My issue is that the list of Facebook albums is limited to 25. the actual galleries are okay – all pictures are being displayed but the ‘show_albums.php’ script will only give me 25 albums. any ideas?
    It doesn’t seem like this is a js issue since the show_albums.php doesn’t use any js.

    thanks

  • For those getting the ‘Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album’ error, you must set your page as a public page, and remember also to set the age restriction to anyone, its under edit settings, manage permissions, age restrictions change to Anyone (13+).
    Facebook updates very often and may reset this setting to default from time to time, so you might have to do this once in a while.

  • I’m having trouble getting the album to display more than 25 pictures. I saw that this question has already been asked; I apologize if I missing something, but can you tell me how to fix the problem?

  • Aspeb

    Is there a way to use this with Blogger? I don’t totally understand the process when I read the instructions..

  • i had the same problem that only 25 pics showed with galleria 1.2.9
    i get the older 1.2.8 from http://kevinp93.com/blog/facebook-images-on-website-v2/ and now it works perfect

  • Jaime

    Has anyone found a good solution to embedding photos from a personal photo album (not a page)? I’m hoping to display my own personal facebook photo albums on my website. It seems like I have to do something to get an access token for user_photos and use that when I query Graph API for my album ID, but I’m not entirely sure how to do that or how to make the solution work with this plugin.

  • Jaime

    Actually, I’ve figured out a way to do this. It is a little complicated, but it seems to be working! The general idea is that you create a facebook app and authenticate to it to allow it access to your photos. You then get an access token using that particular app and the domain of the website you want to embed your album in.

    CREATE A FACEBOOK APP
    1. sign in to facebook
    2. go to: https://developers.facebook.com/apps.
    3. click “+Create New App” in the upper-right.
    4. Once you have gotten your app created, on the basic settings page, under “Select how your app integrates with Facebook,” select ‘Website with Facebook login” and type in the domain of your website (I’m not sure if this step is necessary..)
    5. On the basic settings page, at the top, there are two strings for App ID and App Secret. These are unique to your app and will be used later

    GET AN ACCESS TOKEN
    (following steps from here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6202397/authentication-to-display-my-wall-on-my-website):
    1. Navigate to this URL, replacing YOUR_APP_ID and YOUR_DOMAIN (this should be your website domain). This URL requests all permissions; you can change the scope by removing options after “&scope=”. (I limited this to just user_photos).

    NOTE: you must put a “/” at the end of your domain (e.g. “http://jaimemarijke.com/” NOT “http://jaimemarijke.com”). If you do not do this, Facebook will still ask you to authenticate the app, but you will hit a bug when you try to actually get an access token.

    https://www.facebook.com/dialog/oauth?display=popup&client_id=YOUR_APP_ID&redirect_uri=YOUR_DOMAIN&scope=offline_access,read_stream,email,read_insights,user_events,user_groups,user_interests,user_likes,user_location,user_notes,user_photo_video_tags,user_photos,user_relationships,user_religion_politics,user_status,user_videos,user_website,user_work_history,read_friendlists,read_requests,friends_likes,friends_location,friends_notes,friends_photo_video_tags,friends_photos,friends_relationships,friends_religion_politics,friends_status,friends_videos,friends_website,friends_work_history,user_checkins,friends_checkins

    2. Navigating to this URL will cause Facebook to ask you whether you want to grant this app these permissions.
    3. Once you click “Allow,” facebook will redirect you to the redirect URI (your domain). There will be an additional “code” parameter after the domain url. Copy this parameter.
    4. Navigate to this URL, replacting YOUR_APP_ID, YOUR_DOMAIN, and YOUR_CODE appropriately.
    https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id=YOUR_APP_ID&redirect_uri=YOUR_DOMAIN&client_secret=API-SECRET&code=YOUR_CODE
    5. Calling the URL above will display the access token in the browser. Save this access token. Now you can use this token to make API calls on your behalf.

    EDIT GALLERIA FACEBOOK PLUGIN TO USE YOUR ACCESS TOKEN
    1. Open the /galleria/plugins/facebook/galleria.facebook.js javascript file in a text editor.
    2. Find this line:
    var url = ‘http://graph.facebook.com/’ + params[‘album_id’] + ‘?callback=?’ + ‘&fields=photos.fields(images,source,picture,link,name)&limit=’ + this.options.max;
    3. Replace with this:
    var url = ‘http://graph.facebook.com/’ + params[‘album_id’] + ‘?callback=?’ + ‘&fields=photos.fields(images,source,picture,link,name)&limit=’ + this.options.max + ‘&access_token=YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN’;

    Voila!

  • Carlo

    Hi,

    is it possible to have two or more galleries at one site (.php-document)?
    I’ve tried a lot, but it does not work.

    Thx

  • ryann

    heye nice plugin, worked like a charm.

    I’m wondering if is any way to display/stream photos from a live server (ex: http://www.mydomain.com/photogallery) where “photogallery” subfolder contains one or more photos?

  • Dave

    Hi,

    Everything works fine when I run the code in a test page:

    However when I try to run the in the intended document I get ‘Fatal Error: Stage width or height is too small to show the gallery. Traced measures: width:400px, height:19px.’
    The value of 19 pixels shows up regardless of the value for height set in the script, and I can’t find a statement anywhere else in my code that sets a value of 19 for anything.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Hi Dave: go ahead and post your issue over at github and someone may be able to help out.

    https://github.com/aiaio/galleria-facebook/issues

  • Katie

    Hi, this is great! Will it be made responsive? Thank you!

  • Jose Naal

    Here is the last version of facebook plugin
    https://github.com/aiaio/galleria-facebook/archive/master.zip

    This works well with

    $(‘#galleria’).galleria({
    facebook: ‘album’,
    width: 800,
    height: 600,
    lightbox: true,
    facebookOptions: {
    max: 100
    }
    });

    max 25 it’s solved

  • Xavier

    Hey guys, this is a great plugin! Really, makes life A LOT easier!
    I have a question or a suggestion, depending on what is your answer: is there a way to call the Fb album’s cover photo to be the first photo of the gallery (sort of like a cover photo as well, as it’ll be displayed foremost)?
    Because I’m seeing the Fb graph query in the JS file doesn’t call for the “cover_photo” field. So I’m trying to tweak it by inserting that call but I can’t figure out where I would have to insert that cover photo so that it becomes the first photo in the pile, as it were.
    Any ideas how? Perhaps this could even be a feature available in a future release.
    Anyway, great work!

  • You can create your facebook photo gallery with IFrame widget.

    Just copy/paste IFrame from http://facebook-gallery.net/ and you will have gallery on your website.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Thanks, mind_ex, for the tip on your module. It’s a convenient wrapper around the Facebook Galleria Plugin.

  • J Brown

    I have increased the max to 100, but it still only displays the first 25 photos. I have the April 2013 plugin installed.

  • J Brown

    Followed Josa Naal Post, all is fine.

  • Mick

    I installed/configured everything like it says on this page but the thing never worked.
    :(

    Did facebook break this script?

    Here’s the code I’m using:

    //HEAD PORTION//

    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    Galleria.loadTheme(‘galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    facebook: ‘album:176490752544606’,
    width: 550,
    height: 450,
    lightbox: true});

    //BODY PORTION//

  • same here .. i did the same thing mentioned above but never works..I get a error message called

    “Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album 10200748111289497”

    How to fix this ??

    here is my code

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘API/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    facebook: ‘album:10200748111289497’,
    width: 745,
    height: 550,
    lightbox: true});

  • Hi everybody;

    The system works properly IF the album is allowed to everyone on Facebook. Otherwise, whatever you do, you will get en error and no pics. So, if you want to share a Facebook album on your website, that album must be available to everybody.

    Thanks for explanations; it works very well for me.

  • Fantastic post however , I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Kudos!

  • Hello – fantastic plugin, but i have a problem – my galleries have suddenly started limiting to 25 pics. They were all running fine (up to whatever limit i set in the script) until yesterday afternoon, but now only 25 pics no matter what i do! I did not change anything in the meantime! Any ideas?

  • Great script and i have had it up and running great for a few weeks, but yesterday all galleries suddenly starting limiting to 25 photos – i made no changes, they just began restricting to 25 photos regardless of the limit i set in the script… HELP!

  • well, as quick as the problem arose, it disappeared again – very weird… hopefully all will stay working as it should :-)

  • Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

  • Alex Schmelkin

    This is a wordpress blog.

  • me again! my galleries are limiting to 25 again – they just seem to randomly do this on some occasions and then they sort themselves out again – any ideas why this might be? my website is http://www.retropower.co.uk and the galleries are within the projects pages reached by clicking the polaroids down each side of the page.

  • Alex Schmelkin

    Facebook has been known to modify their API without warning and without explanation. I’m seeing the same thing you are: the API is only returning 25 results regardless of the limit request. I’m inclined to wait another day or two before digging in too deeply into the issue as they might just revert whatever change they made.

  • callum

    Hi again Alex… any luck looking into the 25 photo limit issue yet? Thanks.

  • callum

    Also, totally separate question, but it is possible to set up the plugin to display the photos in a particular order? (ie. date taken/date uploaded rather than just the order they appear in the FB album)

  • dildarm

    Hi All,

    my album is PUBLISH (its publish to every one) so I get still this error:

    All the original comments have gone from this post. Suffice to say Facebook have changed something and the galleria content is only showing 25 images again..

  • YWD

    Why doesn’t work with personal facebook profile?

  • Alex Schmelkin

    25 photo limit was fixed in latest release. Facebook did change their API, but we’ve patched:

    Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album i have given correct album id

  • Approve.

  • Hello Alexander.
    You made a good job, but it seams that is not working on IE10 and IE11.
    It seams that hovering and clicking on images is not working.
    I tried your demo site (gaga center) to check if I create the problem by myself, but the problem is also there.

    Maybe you should update the plugin to work with a newer version of Galleria?

  • It seams that it was a problem of JQuery.
    I used version 1.6.2. Now I updated to 1.11.1 and all is going well.

    If someone else is facing this kind of problem, he may try this fix.

  • Definitely believe that which you stated.

    Your favorite reason appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of.
    I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they just
    do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the
    whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal.
    Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

  • hi, I had this working perfectly on my site. But Suddenly it stopped working.
    It doesn’t show my albums any more. Any suggestions?

    For example for this page: http://www.440.edu.uy/node/9

    I use this code

    Galleria.loadTheme(‘sites/all/libraries/galleria/themes/classic/galleria.classic.min.js’);
    Galleria.run(‘#galleria’, {
    facebook: ‘album:10151136789566906’,
    width: 745,
    height: 550,
    lightbox: true});

    The code doesn’t work!

  • Hola, Gracias por el post. muy interesante como siempre, ¡¡¡Enhorabuena!!!

  • Hello it’s me, I am also visiting this web site regularly,
    this web site is truly nice and the people are in fact sharing nice thoughts.

  • Hi there this is kind of of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs
    use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code
    with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello! Wonderful plugin! Thanks for all your hard work! I have been trying to find a way to reverse the order the pictures are displayed. I want the newest first and the oldest last. Is this possible with this plugin? Any direction would be greatly appreciated! Again, thanks for a fantastic plugin! Very handy indeed.

  • Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything. However just imagine if you added some great pictures or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this website could undeniably be one of the best in its niche. Very good blog!

  • all the time i used to read smaller posts that also clear
    their motive, and that is also happening with this piece
    of writing which I am reading at this place.

  • Howdy I am so thrilled I found your web site, I really
    found you by error, while I was researching on Aol for something else, Nonetheless I am here now and would
    just like to say kudos for a incredible post and a all round thrilling blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read
    it all at the moment but I have saved it and also added in your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a great deal more, Please do keep up
    the great job.

  • It’s hard to come by educated people about this subject, however, you
    seem like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

  • I enjoy what you guys are usually up too. Such clever
    work and coverage! Keep up the amazing works guys I’ve included you
    guys to blogroll.

  • Shamma Lammadingdong

    THANK YOU! Plugin works great! Is there a place to donate for using the code?

  • I agree, it worked fine about a day ago, I fear that maybe facebook has changed something which makes this plugin not working, my other sites that were fine, also experienced the same problem

  • fabio de rosa

    Good morning. I used the plugin and it worked very well. yesterday in my album I get an error string “Unable to retrieve Facebook photos from album 659673520779056” I checked and everything seems in order, I checked if I had been changed the user ID and the link “http://findmyfacebookid.com/” not by any ID. it seems that the problem is in Facebook. You have news? this is my page album “http://www.infinitoviaggi.it/gallery.asp?id=490”
