Ai Leads Yahoo! Tech Talent On DonorsChoose

Company to offer enhanced online shopping experience

January 5, 2006

DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit website connecting teachers in need of supplies with individual donors, undergoes a complete site re-design with an unusual donation from Yahoo! With demands on the rise, DonorsChoose is in need of upgrading its four-year-old website to keep up. Last fall, Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org, called Yahoo! to request the loan of six of Yahoo!'s most talented techies for three months at a time to help enhance his site. Yahoo co-founder, David Filo, responded immediately, and now the first group of volunteers is six weeks into the program. Alexander Interactive (Ai), in a continuing relationship with DonorsChoose, will be responsible for overseeing this entire pioneering philanthropic effort. Ai will manage and jointly develop the new site in an effort to help reach Best's goal of making DonorsChoose available to every public school teacher in the nation by fall 2007.

DonorsChoose is dedicated to addressing the scarcity and inequitable distribution of learning materials and experiences in our public schools. Since 2000, DonorsChoose has grown from an experiment at a Bronx public school to a thriving organization serving 3,481 public schools. Fueled at first by word of mouth, DonorsChoose has achieved exponential growth, quadrupling the resources delivered to classrooms for each of the last four years. DonorsChoose will improve public education by engaging citizens in an online marketplace where teachers describe and individuals can fund specific student projects. Donorschoose envisions a nation where students in every community have the resources they need to learn.
