Foundation for Jewish Camp Gets New Creative and CMS

November 19, 2009

Alexander Interactive, a leading strategy, design, and development firm, has launched a new website for the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the field of nonprofit Jewish overnight camp.

The new site balances the Foundation’s mission of promoting Jewish camp with solutions for communications, jobs in the field, research and fundraising. With the redesign, www.JewishCamp.org is now an easy-to-use reference point for anyone with an interest in Jewish camp.

FJC’s new website features a fun, modern design that leverages the foundation’s logo with their engaging color palette. Large images combine with balanced whitespace to make the site welcoming and easy to read.

New features include a new Find a Camp database interface, easy access to news and information, a scholarship directory, a job board, scholarship and incentive listings and a new blog.

The site is built on a customized Django installation for content management. The Google Maps API powers FJC’s Find a Camp function, core to the mission’s offering, and allows the site to have a flexible and intuitive interface.

“We are so delighted that JewishCamp.org is now a comprehensive, user-friendly, informative online location for anyone with an interest in Jewish summer camp,” said Rina Goldberg, director of communications at Foundation for Jewish Camp. “This was certainly a learning process for FJC and we very much appreciated Ai’s patience and hard work.”

“This project was a lot of fun for Ai,” said Alex Schmelkin, president of Alexander Interactive. “We love doing good work for nonprofits that improve people’s lives. The process was collaborative and creative, and we’re thrilled with the final product.”

The Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) is the only public organization dedicated solely to nonprofit Jewish overnight camps. FJC employs a variety of strategies toward a single goal: to increase the number of children in Jewish summer camps. To this end, the Foundation creates inspiring camp leaders, expands access to and intensifies demand for camp, and develops programs to strengthen camps across the Jewish spectrum in North America. Through strategic partnerships on local and national levels, FJC raises the profile of Jewish camp and serves as a central resource for parents and organizations alike. FJC works with more than 150 camps, 70,000 campers, and 10,000 counselors across North America to further its mission.
